A recent report by the Asian Development Bank found that developing Asia will need to invest $1.7 trillion per year in infrastructure until 2030 to maintain its growth momentum, tackle poverty, and respond to climate change. Chief Economist Sawada will discuss the report’s findings and describe the challenges shaping the future of infrastructure investment and development in the region.
Mr. Yasuyuki Sawada is the chief spokesperson for ADB on economic and development trends, and leads the Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department (ERCD), which publishes ABD’s flagship knowledge products. He is also a Professor in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo. Previously, Mr. Sawada served in a variety of institutions, such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Research Institute, the World Bank, Economics Research Institute of ASEAN and East Asian (ERIA), Research Institute of Economy, Trade, and Industry (RIETI), and Japan Society for the Promotion of Society (JSPS), among others. His research fields include macro- and micro-development economics, microeconometrics, economics of disasters, and field surveys and experiments. Mr. Sawada holds a PhD in Economics and an MA in International Development Policy from Stanford University.
